Monroe cop awaits decision on possible reinstatement

MONROE — A decision was not reached at Monday evening’s pre-termination hearing for Andy Wall, the cancer-free Monroe police officer looking to be reinstated. Wall, a 54-year-old Newtown resident, said he was on long-term disability for a year and a half as he was treated for stage 4 brain cancer. SOUTHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — It was strange to see an E.R. nurse dressed up in fatigues, but Friday was no ordinary day at the office for Nurse Evanna Burgwardt. DNA leads to suspect in Newtown car theft

NEWTOWN – A 19-year-old man has been arrested after his DNA was linked to a car stolen in Newtown last year. Samuel Lopez was arrested Wednesday on warrant at Danbury Superior Court and charged with second-degree larceny. Lopez is currently serving a five-year jail term for an unrelated robbery. Police said Lopez and another, yet to be named, accomplice were tied to the theft of the vehicle from a Newtown residence located on Swamp Rd. in January of 2016. NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Police say DNA lifted out of a stolen car has lead to an arrest. On Thursday, Newtown Police arrested 20-year-old Samuel Lopez for stealing a car in Jan. 2016. Police say Lopez and another man stole the car, a 2013 Hyyundai Elantra, from a home on Swamp Road. Shortly after the theft, the car was found abandoned in Waterbury. NEWTOWN — Connecticut environmental police say a Newtown man has died in a boating accident on a local lake.Police say 52-year-old Randall Pineau was operating a pontoon boat on Lake Zoar at about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when his vessel was struck by another boat.Pineau, of the Sandy Hook neighborhood, was taken to Danbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead.His wife, Katherine, was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.
